Don't know how, but I hosed my new used Power Mac G4. Less than 24 hours, and it will not boot! I am most powerful! May have to reinstall the operating system. Hmmm, looks like micro$oft stole that idea from apple too :-)
Really, I still don;t see what the big deal is all about, yet.

Got my used Power Mac G4 today. I will be buying a vga switch for it tomorrow, so I will not have to be diconnecting the monitor everytime I want to use it.
First impressions: "What is th big deal?" or "Where's the beef?" (I know I am showing my age on that last comment). After 2 hours in both OS 9.2 and OS X 10.15, I came back to my linux box. Linux feels alot faster, more responsive, snappier, and more stable. The mac's case is pretty though ;-)
more impressions to follow.

I started reading Neal Stephenson's CRYPTONOMICON tonight.
I was gonna wait till I went to the beach next month, but I went ahead
and started it tonight. This book will most likely take me a little while
to read. I am not a slow reader...just deliberate.
I want to read Stephenson's Snow Crash as well one day.
I need to finish Book 7 of The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan--A Crown of Swords. I got halfway through and stopped after Lydia was born 14 monthes ago. Anyway.....

I hope I am not alone in my plight.....I am broadband challenged. That's not really the problem though. This is: DSL is available in my area, and I am married. Getting rid of the wife is not an option; neither is living with dialup. My wife is a sweet person, and I love her with all my heart. But, when it comes to money, she is...uh.. how should I put this...in a word: Cheap -note the capital C.
Ordinarily this would be a blessing, having a frugal wife. Most of the time it is. But, when it comes to something that she thinks is an unnecessary expense (i.e. something she doesn't need) she can be unreasonable. So, this is where my superior powers of reason, logic, pursuasion, creativity, and most of all manipulation become necessary.
I may have to wait till fall, but that's not really going to be hard. I have waited over 12 years already. I will get DSL. I just wish I didn't have to feel so dirty getting it. :-)

I watched "Sargent York" again last night. You can usually count on that movie getting played on TV on Memorial Day weekend. If you have never seen this movie, and especially if you are an American, then you need to find this movie and watch it. It's the true story of a concientious objector who became the most decorated soldier of World War I. This movie was made in 1941 and Gary Cooper won best an Oscar for best actor for his role as Alvin C. York. This is a very very good movie; one of my favorites.

I am trying out 3 new linux web browsers on RedHat 9:

Mozilla 1.4b and epiphany which I got off RedHat rawhide.

and

Mozilla Firebird which I got here.

Epiphany is supposed to be the next gnome defualt browser. I like it ok, just not as good as galeon yet. It is very very lightweight; that is a good thing.

Mozilla 1.4b looks a feels alot like the stock mozilla that comes with RedHat 9. Firebird on the other hand might as well be galeon, but more slicker.

Of these 3 browsers, Mozilla is the most feature rich, epiphany is the lightest, and firebird is just right.

PaPa bear is happy.

Oh yeah, I am also trying out Opera 7.something for linux. It's QT based, and not free--so who cares.

If it is illegal for a teenager with a computer to access a computer belonging to a company, or branch of government, then why is it legal for the R.I.A.A. to access private computers. Or why is it legal for the government to employ "white hat hackers" to do the same thing that regular hackers do? Is it unreasonable to search (albeit electronically) someone's computer without a warrant? If it is, then it is unconstitutional. Isn't it?

The Matrix Reloaded rocked! Saw it last Thursady night. Jaw-dropping, thought provoking, and a little philosophical. One of the two best movies ever made, counting the first one. Stay through the end credits though, if you want to see the teaser trailer for The Matrix Revolutions. This movie was simply amazing!!!!

Another reason to switch from Internet Explorer to Mozilla:

Click here Internet Explorer users to test/crash your browsers; you have been warned. :-)

I wish I worked with computers. I wish I had a job in the computer industry.
I think it would be cool to have a job using linux.
That would be the kind of job that when you retired, you would have to ask yourself, "Did I get paid to work, or to have fun?". It's a regret of mine that I didn't major in computer science.
It's too late for me now I am afraid. I make too much money doing what I do now, to take the cut in pay to be happy.
I guess there are worse problems I could have.

Another thing I wish sometimes: I wish I could draw.
