I guess it didn't phase me at first, but the re-registering stunt SCO is pulling with their customers who got linux from them, is a violation of the GPL.

The New York Times is reporting that Google and Microsoft have been in merger talks. This could be a very bad thing. Wan't to know how objective Microsoft can be when it comes to search engine reults? Do a search on MSN for linux, now look at the top 4 links. Now, then try the same thing on google. Look at the number of reults. Makes you wonder what will happen to the quality of your searches if Microsoft has anything to do with it.

Ever wonder how google manages to find just what you atre looking for? Click here to learn more :-)

It just get's more and more bizarre. SCO has removed it's linux distribution from public access, and asked that it's existing linux customers to re-register to get a password for access. Read the rest

Just when you thought it couldn't get any wierder...

Don't go here supershadow.com unless you want know what is going to happen in Star Wars Episode 3. This is not your average spoiler site!

Here is a good article by Robert X. Cringely at PBS:

How Microsoft's Misunderstanding of Open Source Hurts Us All

I completely moved my main site to my own server. All the Linux links stuff prviously here is now at lottalinuxlinks.com. I wish I had a way of sending a 301 permanant redirect from my old site; but I don't think that is possible since it was hosted by mindspring.

12 Million historic photographs.......WOW!

I have a web server up and running now. I have duplicated dsyates.home.mindspring.com and added a better search program (I can now run cgi, perl, and php since I have my own server). I will be keeping up the old site for as a back up. The new site can be reached at lottalinuxlinks.com .

Good stuff.

I don't know if you call this "giving up" or "giving in".Here is a site, that evidently used to pride itself on exposing MS Internet Explorer security holes. But now, has (and I quote) "seen a sea change in Microsoft’s commitment to rid its IE browser of the vulns that PivX Solutions and other third party researchers have identified. Given Microsoft’s recent positive actions together with the current rise in attacks against IE we have agreed to give Microsoft a good faith reprieve and have taken down our ‘Unpatched’ page. This was done in both a spirit of cooperation and for the good of the internet as a whole. As the ubiquitous browser that is utilized to access the internet, we all depend on IE too much to have crooks, social deviants, malcontents and crackers from messing with our lifestyles and our livelihoods. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"

Ugh!

This is a direct quote from slashdot

""A couple of weeks ago BMG released an audio CD with a new type of DRM. Earlier this week, a computer science graduate student at Princeton wrote a report showing the DRM was ineffective - it could easily be defeated by use of the 'shift' key. The stock of the DRM company (SunnComm) has since fallen by 20%. Now, SunnComm plans to sue the student under the DMCA and claim that SunnComm's reputation has been falsely damaged. According to SunnComm's CEO, 'No matter what their credentials or rationale, it is wrong to use one's knowledge and the cover of academia to facilitate piracy and theft of digital property.'"

If after reading that, you don't think sunncomm is silly, go check out their webpage. Now, if you want to hear something funny check out this website: zombo.com. I wonder if Sunncomm want's to be taken seriously?

I think stuff like this is cool. MIT has made their course material available on the internet for free. It's can be found at http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html

In a related story LinuxIT announces the availability of its training courses leading to Linux Professional Institute (LPI ) Certification under GPL, GNU Free Documentation License.

Information should be free.

I don't agree with the guy politically, but his article is, at least for me, timely.
